  Save refers to the storing of a file on storage media, for example, a disk or CD.

The description, the schema, will be written in a data description language.

  The range of statements for which a variable is valid. This will normally be the subprogram in which it is declared and any other subprograms embedded within that subprogram. A variable cannot be used outside its scope as it appears not to exist.

  A scratch file is used as a temporary working area by an application.

  A section of immediate access store reserved as a temporary working area for use by an application.

  Display area for output, e.g. the screen of a monitor.

  A representation of the screen stored as a data file or produced as a printout. A screen dump is an easy way of printing data collected together on the screen and produces a copy of the current screen display.

  To replace the image currently being displayed on screen by a new image, either because the image fades or because the data has changed, but the changes are not reflected in the display.

  Software that removes the image from the display (or replaces it with a constantly moving image), either as a security measure or to reduce the risk of damage to the interior surface of the display screen. If the screen display is not changed for a long period of time, the coating of the screen can become damaged.

  Similar to a small program, it is a set of commands which perform a particular action, without requiring any user input.

  To move up and down (vertically) or sideways (horizontally) in a document or window.

• scroll bar
  Where the display of an application is too big for the window, a scroll bar is provided to move the displayed portion of the application vertically or horizontally. Also called 'slider bar'.
